Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC), Desmond Enabulele, has issued a promissory note to athletes that would be wearing the state colours at the National Sports Festival coming up in Ogun State in May. He promised to give the athletes all they need to succeed at the games.
He also commended his staff, board members, and everyone involved in making the just concluded South South Zonal Eliminations for Ball Games in preparation for the NSF a huge success. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Governor Monday Okpebholo for his unwavering commitment to the development of sports in Edo State.
The South South Zonal Elimination for ball games which began in Benin on Sunday, February 23, has come to an end. Elated at the qualitative outing of Team Edo at the event Enabulele showered praises on the athletes.
Doing a review of the event, Enabulele said he was impressed with the performance and conduct of the athletes throughout the period the competition lasted.
On Thursday afternoon after all competitions had ended, Team Edo had succeeded in securing tickets to represent the South South Zone in eight ball games at the National Sports Festival proper. The ball games in which Edo State athletes shone like a million stars included Volleyball (female), Beach Volleyball (female), Football (male and female), Cricket (male and female) and Handball (male and female).
Athletes from other South South states that participated in the zonal elimination will be departing Benin for their state on Friday, February 28.
“We commend the efforts of our athletes. Their hard work and dedication have paid off, and they have made Edo State proud,” Enabulele submitted with enthusiasm.
He said that the enabling environment and the free hand given him and his board to operate made the South South Zonal Elimination hosted by Edo State a success just as he wished all the contingent from other states a safe journey back to their respective states.
