The Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission(ESSC), Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated Bendel Insurance FC on their outstanding performance in a thrilling 2-1 victory over league leaders, Remo Stars in Benin City on Saturday evening. He was speaking in a chat with journalists shortly after the game.
The Benin Arsenals defeated the high flying skyblue boys 2-1 in the Match Day 28 of the Nigeria Premier Football League(NPFL) game courtesy of Skipper Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi’s two beautiful goals at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
While describing the Benin Arsenals performance as superlative, Enabulele lauded the team for their resilience and the great skill they displayed to secure the crucial 2-1 victory over the table topping Remo Stars FC.
The match kicked off with an explosive start as Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi found the net just two minutes into the game, setting the tone for an intense contest. In the 54th minute, he doubled Bendel Insurance’s lead, securing a brace and putting the home team in firm control.
Despite a late surge from Remo Stars when Samuel Anakwe managed to pull one goal back in the 82nd minute to reduce the deficit, Bendel Insurance held on to claim the well-deserved win.
Enabulele also praised the team for their remarkable turnaround, after battling out of relegation zone and now comfortable on the 7th position. He assured Insurance FC of the state government commitment to the welfare of the players and officials.
“This victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players and coaching staff. When we came in, Bendel Insurance was battling relegation, but today, the transformation is evident.
“I must commend the team captain, Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi, for proving his worth. The team is heading in the right direction. Currently, we are seventh on the league table, and we are confident of breaking into the top four.”
He further encouraged the players to maintain the momentum as they continue their Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and determination in achieving greater success.
At the end of the match, team captain, Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi, was named Man of the Match(MOM) and received a ₦150,000 award, presented by Edo State Commissioner for Information, Barrister Paul Ohonbamu, alongside Desmond Enabulele.
