Edo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN) has sent a congratulatory message to Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of the state on his appointment as the Director General (DG) of the National Institute for Sports(NIS) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the message signed by its Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, the Edo SWAN affirmed that the choice of Shaibu to head the NIS is a confirmation of his rich pedigree in attending to sports related issues and also his youth centric approach to governance.

According to Osagiede, that Mr. President was able to single out Shaibu to man the position is a clear case of the right peg been placed in the right hole considering that as the Deputy Governor of Edo State in the immediate past administration in the state Hon. Shaibu, who was saddled with elevating the sports sector of the state did a commendable job one of which was the complete overhauling of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City to a real modern edifice.

“We are wishing Hon. Shaibu many milestone achievements in this assignment foisted on him by the central government. Even knowing that he is very capable of tackling it,” Osagiede posited.

On the invasion of Super Eagles defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel’s home in Turkey, Osagiede condoled with the Edo State born football star.

While condoling with Osayi-Samuel on what he described as a temporary setback, Osagiede asserted that the trajectory of his football career can only go higher and higher.

“You’re a star by all standards. The invasion of your residence in Turkey can never stand as a stumbling block to your success story. Our prayers for you is that the heavens continue to protect and guide you in whatever you do,” he submitted.
