The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, has assured the leadership of Edo State Golf Association of his support and renewed commitment to the promotion and development of Golf from the grassroots level, just as he revealed plans with the association to launch Governor’s Cup soon.
He was speaking when he received the Chairman of the Edo State Golf Association, Mr. Andy Momodu and members, who paid him a solidarity visit in his office in Benin City on Tuesday.
Andy Momodu and the delegation of coaches, athletes, and members of Edo Golf Association during the visit presented trophies they have won since after the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
“I sincerely appreciate your efforts. As a Commission, we only ask for your financial commitment and accessibility. I’m happy you are a Chairman of association that is on ground and close to the coaches and athletes.
We acknowledge your contributions so far.
“Let me congratulate all the athletes who have made Edo proud. Our vision and mission is the development of grassroots sports, and it is gratifying to see our initiatives and programmes yielding results ,” he added.
Enabulele assured the association of the Commission’s continued support and partnership in hosting major golf tournaments across the state, including introducing the Governor’s Cup tournament.
The Chairman of the Edo State Golf Association Board, Andy Momodu, commended the Sports Commission boss for his visionary leadership and dedication to repositioning Sports in Edo State.
”We parade some of the best golf players in the country. These trophies represent the achievements of our athletes and it shows that Edo State will continue to excel in golf,” Momodu said.
He briefed the Sports Commission boss on the recent successes, including Ehis Igbinadolor’s feat as first runner-up and Nigeria’s best at the All Africa Challenge/Central Africa Championship.
He proudly introduced Osaze Iyare Delta Men’s Governor’s Golf Cup and the Benin Club Open title holder among others.
Momodu also informed the Sports Commission chairman about his recent elevation as the South-South representative on the Nigeria Golf Federation, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen regional collaboration for golf development.
