Edo Queens set to outshine rivals in Morocco

Less than two weeks to the commencement of the fourth edition of CAF Women’s Champions League showpiece in Morocco, Nigeria’s representatives to the event, Edo Queens Football Club of Benin, will depart the shores of Nigeria on November 7th, 2024, for Morocco. 

As Champions of WAFU-B, Edo Queens, who are making their first competitive appearance in the continental showdown, have vowed to make a stand out performance as they prepare to face stiffer opponents like Mamelodi Sundowns FC of South Africa, Tutankhamun FC of Egypt and CBE FC of Ethiopia in Group B.

Having enjoyed an excellent start in the preliminaries in Cote D’Ivoire, Edo Queens produced an impressive response to opponents playing five matches and winning all. As reigning NWFL Champions, the ancient City based ladies who are currently sweating it out in closed camp as part of build up for the continental cracker, have one thing in their minds that is to pull  a stunning  performance by ensuring that they replicate what they did in Cote D’Ivoire during the play-off.

Currently swimming in massive boost by the outgoing government of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the entire team are willing to play their hearts out in the CAF fiesta to prove to their opponents that they are in Morocco to make a statement not for jamboree. 

This competition is an avenue for   Coach Moses Aduku, and his technical crew to prove their tactical and professional expertize  as they battle Mamedodi FC and others at the group stage.

Recall that during the red carpet reception organized for the club by the  State government after their WAFU-B exploit  in Cote D’Ivoire,  Moses Aduku in his  address while thanking the State government, promise to bring the CAF Women’s Champions League  trophy to Edo State and Nigeria. 

He maintained that he has won all the trophies in the calendar of women football, in the land, that with good preparation, motivation and support from the government, Edo Queens will make the state proud.

Furthermore, Edo Queens have prevailed in NWFL 2023/24 premiership season. Their outstanding form has come at a time when Edo State Government took the challenge of making sure that sports in the state regain its lost glory in the annals of Nigeria sports. For the round leather game, a whole lot of achievements have been recorded and kudos goes to the state government.

Meanwhile, as preparations gets underway, Chioma Olise, Inyange Esther, Moses Chioma, Uroko Valentina, Folashade Ijamilusi, Vera Samuel, Usani Miracle, Doris Ohia and 17 others make Moses Aduku’s tentative list to Morocco.
