Edo plans big for tourism

Edo State Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs has enjoined stakeholders innnovative recovery solutions that are home grown and practical, tailor made for our specific environment and people.”

The Ministry made the call through its Permanent Secretary, Itohan Bazuaye, on the occasion of the 2021 celebration of World Tourism Day held on Monday, September 27th, 2021.

“Before the pandemic, 1 in every 4 new jobs was created by the Tourism Sector, thereby making the industry the best partner for government in employment generation. For every job created in the core Tourism sector, several indirect jobs are created in the wider tourism related industries.

“The restart of the Tourism industry after the devastating effects of Covid-19 will help kickstart its recovery and growth. Traditional tourism had heavily relied on the physical movement of people for the purpose of leisure, business and sports etc.

“Therefore, there is an urgent need to collectively develop proactive and sustainable ideas that will properly re-organise the sector and accelerate it’s recovery in Edo State and Nigeria at large.”

She added that the plan by the  state government is at top gear to introduce Virtual Tourism as one of the digital strategies to boost local tourism.
