Edo NUJ wants swift action from state govt, local govt council et al to remove dead body from public glare

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has drawn the attention of the State Government, Oredo Local Government Council, relevant security agencies, and emergency response services to the discovery of a lifeless body in front of the comatose Motel Benin Plaza, directly opposite the NUJ Edo State Council Press Centre, located at No. 1 Sir Gabriel Igbinedion Way, GRA, Benin City.

In a statement by Comrade Andy Egbon, the Secretary of the Council, he stated that “the deceased, believed to be a middle-aged man, was found lying motionless at the location in the early hours of today.

“There are indications that the body may have been dumped at the scene during the night, as no prior incident was recorded in the area.

“The continued presence of the corpse at such a prominent public location, particularly opposite the Press Centre, is disturbing and poses public health, safety, and environmental concerns, while also causing distress to journalists, residents, and passers-by.”

The Council therefore called on the Edo State Government, relevant security agencies, and emergency response services, including the police and environmental health authorities, “to urgently visit the scene, evacuate the lifeless body, and commence appropriate investigations to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death.”

In summing it up, the Council urged swift and decisive action in the interest of public decency, safety, and accountability.
