Edo NUJ: Correspondents prepare for date with history

The die is cast as the much awaited election of officials of the Correspondents Chapel of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29th. The election process commences from 9am.

Arising from a closed door peace meeting of some of the key members of the chapel with the officials of the Council led by the Chairman, Festus Alenkhe, it was agreed that all the 28 members of the Chapel are cleared to participate in the voting process.

The position of Chairman is being contested by Patrick Ochoga and Michael Egbejule while others vying for the other positions, outside the Assistant Secretary, have been returned unopposed.

Credible information reaching Popular News is that the two members that earlier signified interest in occupying the position of Assistant Secretary were disqualified by the Electoral Committee (ELECO) and the instruction emanating from the peace accord meeting is that the position will be filled via a bye election at a later date.
