The Edo State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON), has demanded for the immediate and unconditional release of Collins Aigbogun, the Chairman of Esan West Local Government Council of the state, who was arrested by police from Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He strongly condemned what he described as the unmitigated assault on Aigbogun, saying that the act of volence is a clear violation of democratic principles and the rule of law.

“It is disheartening to note that instead of engaging in a peaceful campaign, the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be resorting to violence and intimidation tactics, including unwarranted attacks on PDP members,” he stated.

Ugiagbe asserted that the unprovoked assaults of the PDP members must be addressed swiftly to prevent further attack and ensure a free and fair electoral process.

While noting that ALGON stands firm in its commitment to promoting peace, democracy and the rule of law in Edo State, the chairman called on all stakeholders including political parties and security agencies to work together to safeguard the rights and safety of all citizens during the electioneering period.

He expressed disgust that instead of the authorities to get to the root of Aigbogun’s complaints and make the culprits to account for their actions the pendulum suddenly swung against the complainant by police from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
