Edo 2024: My focus will be on the commoners – Ogun

Hon. Sergius Ogun, the member that represented Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency of Edo State in the ninth House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has formally defected to the Labour Party (LP), has indicated his interest in contesting the 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.

While addressing the press at the state headquarters office of the LP in Benin City, Ogun said that his interest in becoming the governor of Edo State is fuelled by his desire to liberate the commoners, the ordinary people.

“I believe in people. The Labour Party (LP) is for the ordinary people, ordinary Nigerians, the commoners, the downtrodden of this country. They’re the people that we are fighting for. They’re the people that we must liberate,” he asserted.

He stressed that those below the elites must be allowed to breathe, adding “LP government in Osadebey Avenue will liberate them(the commoners) in this state.

“We don’t have any problem with somebody sending his children abroad to school if you are a rich man, you’re in the private sector and you’re paying your tax. We don’t have any problem with that.

“We don’t have any problem with you going overseas to do medical checkup. But you will not be in government and use government resources to do that. We are against that,” he submitted.

He promised that he will ensure that there are well trained teachers in the government owned schools who will be well remunerated to teach pupils.

On health he disclosed that all will be done to have a good health system and fix the Primary Health Centres(PHC) in the rural areas so that they can function well.

“They(PHC) should have basic equipment. That’s not asking for too much. The poorest of us should be allowed to go to the farms and bring in farm produce so that the cost of living can come down.”
