Edo 2024: Group seeks commitment to women issues

Ahead of the 2024 Edo State  gubernatorial election in September, the Nigerian League of Women Voters(NILOWV), in Edo State, has  invited the frontline governorship candidates to an interactive hybrid meeting, as part of its crucial role to ensure that women’s issues, gender inclusion, and female participation in politics are prioritized by all candidates.

In a statement jointly signed by Chair NILOWV, Edo State, Anthonia Asagba  and chairperson organizing committee and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State, Professor Yinka Omorogbe(SAN), the event which has as its theme, Gender Agenda: Promoting Inclusion and Women’s Participation, will hold at 2pm  on 30th July 2024 at Uyi Grand International Event Center, 11 Osagiede Street, GRA, Benin-City.

According to the statement, the primary goal of the event is to engage with the frontline gubernatorial candidates of Edo State, providing a platform for them to express their commitment to advancing and promoting female inclusion if elected as each candidate is expected to use the opportunity of the program to commit to uphold and support policies that enhance the role of women in politics and governance.

While highlighting the key objectives of the hybrid interactive meeting with Edo State governorship candidates, to include promoting gender inclusion, implementing policies that foster gender equality and the empowerment of women in all sectors, enhancing increased participation of women in political processes and decision-making roles, the statement added that addressing key challenges faced by women in Edo State and proposing actionable solutions are central to the main objectives of the event.

The organizers also disclosed that the event, which is of critical importance for all stakeholders, especially Edo female voters, is a veritable platform to engage with leaders to hear directly from the candidates about their vision for gender inclusion and to influence discussions that could shape the future policies affecting women in Edo State.
