Edo 2024: Ex-NBA President, Akpata, emerges LP flagbearer

Barrister Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), today scored 316 votes in the keenly contested Edo State gubernatorial primaries of the Labour Party (LP) to emerge as the party’s standard bearer for the election slated for September 21, 2024.

He floored some five other aspirants including Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon(aka The Riceman) who came a distant second with 7 votes. 

Akpata scored 316 votes to win the exercise held in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Friday afternoon devoid of any rancour. 

Responding to the outcome of the exercise after the collation of the votes and announcement of the results by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emeta, who was the Returning Officer cum Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Akpata affirmed that he will be following in the footsteps of his mentor, late Aarakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN), his predecessor as NBA President and governor of Ondo State whom he poured encomium on.
