Shaibu’s appointment as DG of NIS will usher in new era of innovation in sports, says NUJ

Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has warned members not the heat up the polity as the countdown to the 2024 governorship election commended in earnest.

He was speaking while welcoming Alhaji Bashiru Kadiri, a former Permanent Secretary in the employ of the Edo State Government, who was the guest lecturer at the Council’s 2023 Press Week Lecture Series entitled ‘Unionism and Development Drive: A Panacea for Democrat Advancement.’

Comrade Alenkhe reminded the journalists that what really identify them as practicing journalists is the NUJ national identity card that is issued by the national secretariat of the union in Abuja.

On the 2024 governorship poll in the state, Comrade Alenkhe said: “2024 is already around the corner. From January 1 the polity will heat up. As journalists do not join politicians to heat up the polity. Instead use your initiative as journalists to calm the tension.

“If the tension is rising use your write ups and every other thing you’re doing to bring down the tension so that Edo State would be cool and calm for us to live in.”

In his presentation, Alhaji Kadiri affirmed that the idea behind the formation of a union is to protect, defend and promote a common idea and prosperity.

Going further, he stressed that if a union lose the concept of promote, protect and defend it has lost it all.
