The Director General (DG) of the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation (DOEF), Dr. Osahon Enabulele, has asserted that the foundation “envisions an empowered society where every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, has equitable access to quality healthcare, education, and other societal opportunities.”

He was addressing a Press Conference heralding the 2026 roundtable and 1st year anniversary celebration of the foundation held on Thursday at the Doctors House, Ugbowo in Benin City.

Former President of the World Medical Association reflects on 2025

Going down memory lane, the former President of the World Medical Association (WMA) reiterated: “A year ago, on this same day, 29th of January, 2025, you joined us to launch our Foundation at a very colourful ceremony attended by over 800 persons, at the Akin Deko Auditorium of the University of Benin.

“At that historic occasion, we had unfurled to you the basis for the launch of the Foundation.

“Specifically, we had stated that the birthing of the Foundation was borne out of years of engaging communities, including underserved communities, and seeing first-hand the stark realities facing our people; particularly in terms of the reality of huge gaps in access to quality healthcare and education, with significant negative knock-on effects on human capital development, as well as the reality of huge gaps in leadership and governance at virtually all levels, that had made over 133 million Nigerians to be multi-dimensionally poor, and conditioned to a state of hopelessness and disillusionment.

“We had therefore stated that it was in realization of the above unfortunate trend that our Foundation was borne to reignite hope amongst the citizens, by empowering them with the right knowledge, skills and opportunities, to transform their lives and transform the society at large. Summarily, our Foundation is committed to offering her contributions to change the negative narratives through concrete expressions of her strategic thrusts, mission, and core values.”

On the foundation’s programmes objectives for 2026, he disclosed: “In our second year, the Foundation shall seek to deepen its impact through the execution of programs and projects predicated on the Foundation’s Strategic Thrusts.

In the area of education, he stated that “the Foundation shall build on its successes in 2026, along with the promotion of new initiatives that will impact students and the future generation.

“In this regard, our flagship initiative, the DOEF Interschools debate competition, will be sustained and hopefully cascaded to regional and national levels.

“Opportunities for improved access to education through scholarships and other incentives will be impact the education of our students and youths.”

Going further, he averred that “in the health sector, the Foundation shall focus on the following, amongst others: citizenry empowerment, particularly in terms of enlightenment of the citizenry on their health rights, health seeking behaviour, and their role in building a quality, effective, efficient, equitable, and responsive health system; improved access to quality health care will be pursued through the conduct of medical missions and advocacy for improved geographic and financial access to quality care and recognizing the importance of effectively leadership and good governance of the health system, we shall undertake initiatives that will strengthen health system leadership and good governance through our leadership capacity building workshops and regular performance appraisals.”
