The acting Chairman of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Council of Edo State, Johny Ogbeide, has charged youths to endeavour to pursue their dreams irrespective of the stumbling blocks that they might encounter adding “the world can celebrate you. Your dreams are valid if you’re willing to put in the time and resources  that is required to achieve success.”

Ogbeide spoke through the Council’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Uncommon Emmanuel, who represented him on the occasion of the Ikpoba Okha Local Government leg of the Dr. Osahon Enabulele Foundation(DOEF) powered Edo State Secondary Schools Debate Competition held in the Council office in Idogbo on Tuesday afternoon.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, the Director General (DG)  of the foundation, described the students as “the true leaders of the future” adding that the foundation decided to bring the competition to the doorsteps of the students “to connect with you, to meet you where you are.”

Going down memory lane, he revealed that his emergence as the President of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA) and also World Medical Association (WMA) at about the same period didn’t come on a platter of gold as he had to hold fast to his dreams and ensure that it come to fruition despite all the odds against him.

He affirmed that the secondary schools debate competition is a way of ensuring that the young ones are well tutored on how to handle issues of leadership and also to give them the understanding that they require to fit into leadership position.

While announcing Havard Education Centre as winners of the competition, Prof. Joan Enabulele, acting Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Benin, who led the team of Judges, described all the seven other contestants, namely Army Day Secondary School, Itohan Girls Grammar School, Western Boys High School, Russel International Group of Schools, Idogbo Senior Secondary School, Niger College and St. Maria Gorreti Girls Grammar School, as potential winners as they all scored good marks in the evaluation of the panel of judges.

Participanting students and their teachers were honoured with  certificates of participation by the foundation.
