The memories of Monday, March 10th, 2025, will forever be etched in the subconscious of the students and staff of the St. Maria Goretti Girls’ Grammar School, Benin City.
On the memorable day the renovated administrative block of the school project majorly financed by the North America chapter of the school’s old girls association(SMAGOGA) was commissioned and handed over to the school’s management.
In her speech on the occasion, Lucy Dunmi Ukponmwan, the President of the North America chapter of SMAGOGA, said that the renovated administrative block building “is a symbol of hope, a place where dreams are nurtured” adding “it is our collective responsibility that the students feel valued and supported.”
In her own submission, Janet Adenrele, the Global Publicity Secretary of SMAGOGA said that the renovated building, based on the caliber of people who came to witness the event, had shown its value.
While reflecting on the values and excellence on which the 66 years old school was founded, Adenrele thanked the SMAGOGA North America for its foresight and efforts in keeping the building standing without changing the aesthetic standard adding “the building has stand the test of time.”Â
On the sidelines of the epoch event, Lady Omorede Osifo, the National Deputy Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), an old student of the school, showered encomium on the SMAGOGA for its proactive nature while emphasizing that the North America chapter has kept the flag flying over time with its humanitarian ideals.
The epoch event, which was marked with cultural dance by the students, quiz, brainteasers, health and sex education and dinner night, was witnessed by high networth individuals some of whom are also old students of the school. On the list are Emmanuel Okuebor, the Edo State Commissioner for Finance; Omozane Ebanehita Sonia, the Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board(SSEB); Henry Omoregie, the immediate past president of the elite Benin Club and a host of others.
