Reverend Leo Olu-Martins has advocated for a direct engagement of the governors with the governed as a way of having a governor bringing governance closer to the people via feed back mechanism.
He was talking on a programme, Agenda Setting, which aired on Super FM Benin on Thursday.
According to the cleric, “if you’re an executive, elected or appointed public officer you must have a social media handle where you get direct feedback from. There are times that you must handle it by yourself.”
He asserted that such direct citizens engagement with the governor for instance will go a long way in curtailing incidence of window dressing and sycophancy that some may adopt to shield the governor.
According to him such idea if adopted will go a long way to bring about interest by the governed in how the government is handling state issues and making deliverable available.
He affirmed that if this methodology is adopted bys the relevant government bodies it will reduce the incident of lack of trust and bring governance closer to all and sundry devoid of any inhibition.
Rev. Martin expressed misgivings about town hall meetings which he stated can be doctored to suit the feelings of the government.
