A Benin based group, Talakawa’s Parliament, has sent a strong message to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Momoh, accusing him of grossly marginalising Edo South Senatorial District in the siting of projects in oil producing communities.
In the message signed its acting Secretary, Comrade Osas Agbonamwanre, the Talakawa’s Parliament said: “the reckless abandonment and marginalization of Edo South by the Minister of Niger Delta Development Affairs, when he blatantly influenced five major capital projects which are to be sited in Edo North, primarily the village he hails from and elsewhere in the non-oil producing areas of Edo North.
“It is very sad that Ikpoba Okha, Orhionmwon and Ovia North East Local Government Areas that have huge deposits of oil and natural gas are still crying for development in the midst of billions of naira acruable to the Ministry.”
Going further, the Talakawa’s Parliament asserted that “it is very obvious that the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry has failed woefully in the discharge of its responsibility thereby promoting hostilities and militancy disguisefully in Edo South Senatorial District.”
In conclusion, the Talakawa’s Parliament submitted, “for emphasis, it is the oil and gas in Edo South that qualified Edo State to be a Niger Delta State; and it is only a Niger Delta State person that can be a Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.”
