The Special Adviser further explained that the mandate of the law establishing the National Agency for Ethics and Values Compliance, where his office draws legal backing from, has spelt out the responsibilities of Ethics and Values Orientation Corps, pointing out that the areas of responsibilities of his office and that of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) were not the same and therefore does not amount to duplication of functions.

“The Agency for Ethics and Values Compliance law provides for a legal framework for individuals and organizations to observe specific ethical standards, to develop and promote best practices in integrity, develop codes of ethics, receive complaints on breach of trust and code of ethics, conduct investigations on acts of breach or violation of public trust and recommend same to the Director of Public Prosecutions for appropriate actions to be taken against such public and private officers alleged to have engaged in unethical behaviours, and to institute and conduct proceedings in court for the purposes of recovery or protection of public property.

He said the breach of ethical standards could incur specific punitive measures, which is a significant departure from the mandate of the National Orientation Agency, saying that a critical aspect of the Ethics and Values Orientation Corps is the fact that millions of jobs will be created for youth across the country.

Responding, Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria Rebranding Committee in Bayelsa State,  Apostle Timiebi Gaius Kiyaramo, who is also the General Overseer of Kingdom Grace Mission International Church, located on Oxbow Lake Road Yenagoa, thanked the Special Adviser for finding time to come to his office and brief him on the core mandate of his new office.

Apostle Kiyaramo stressed the need to urgently address integrity deficit and personal values amongst Nigerians, noting that ethical standards are required ingredients to combat corruption. He reiterated that the issue of integrity comes to the fore if society is to be saved from annihilation on account of corrupt practices and a regime of widespread impunity.

While thanking Governor Douye Diri for appointing a man of integrity as his Special Adviser on Ethics and Values Orientation, the man of God assured the Special Advicer of willingness of Christian community to partner the new administration in the state is on the path of service delivery and greatness.

Apostle Kiyaramo, who also doubles as chairman Board of Trustees of a socio-cultural group,  Ikebiri Development Foundation (IDF), advised the governor to shun every form of politics to focus attention on the critical issues of Ethics and Values compliance as the world is watching how Bayelsa can get it right with this golden opportunity.
