Top contender in the soon-to-be held Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council chairmanship election, Comrade Festus Alenkhe (JP), has felicitated with journalists across the country, especially those from Edo State, for the noble role they played in the installation of an enduring democratic culture in Nigeria till date.
According to him “Nigeria’s democracy is no more nascent after 22 years of un-interrupted democratic rule.”
In a statement issued and signed by the Director-General(DG), Alenkhe Campaign Organization(ACO), Comrade Massydon Osaigbovo Osunde, he emphasised that journalists who swallowed fire during military rule to enthrone Nigeria’s democratic rule have all been noted and their names written in gold.
“Journalists who swallowed fire during military rule to enthrone Nigeria’s democratic system have all been noted and their names written in gold.
“We must keep on pushing towards ensuring that our democracy remains strong with human and infrastructural development. The role of Journalists as the watchdog of the society must be strongly reenacted at all times.
“I therefore call for continuous press freedom in the country as we march ahead in the sustenance of democracy in line with what is obtainable globally,” he submitted.
