As activities hot up for the 2020 Alaghodaro Summit and inauguration of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for a second term, civil society groups in the state have expressed confidence that the governor will keep to his promise to ensure youths’ participation in governance.

Chairman of the Concerned Citizens of Edo, Mr. Ogbeiwi Aghedo, said members of the civil society in the state have seen enough commitment and evidence to believe that the Governor Obaseki-led administration will, in the next four years, encourage more youths to participate in governance across all levels.

According to him, “In the last four years, the governor has not only equipped Edo youths with digital skills but consistently engaged them on high-level offices in government hitherto reserved for older hands. Today, young people are taking the lead in key sectors in the state and this is commendable. The mix of commissioners is also a pointer to how the governor conducts the business of governance. The governor is fully committed to ensuring that young people contribute their quota in Making Edo Great Again.”

Also, the Coordinator of a socio-political group, Diaspora Network for Good Governance, Comrade Oseghale Joshua Junior, said the group is looking forward to the inauguration of the governor, which will mark the continuation of the people-centric reforms of the state government.

He said, “We are interested in good governance and Governor Obaseki has shown enough commitment to drive change that would be beneficial for youths. That is why the Alaghodaro summit this year is important for our state’s overall development.”
