The Edo State Labour Party(LP) governorship candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata, on Sunday promised to provide education scholarship to pupils and students at the Home for the Needy, the facility that provides shelter and care to thousands of Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs), located in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was his maiden visit to the IDPs facility and he donated various food items and provisions to the over 4,000 inhabitants made up of children, youths, men and women.

Akpata, who was accompanied by members of his campaign team, expressed disappointment that Nigerians could be displaced in their own country for no fault of theirs. He tendered an apology on behalf of Nigeria elites over the plight of the over 4,000 IDPs in the camp.

He also called on eligible voters in the camp not be swayed  by the antics of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) noting that they have failed Nigerians and should be roundly rejected at September 21st governorship election.

He said LP, with the logo of Mama, Papa and Pikin emblazoned on its flag, remains the only party for the downtrodden in the country adding that it is the only party that can rescue Edo State and Nigeria.

He said, “Today God has brought me to this camp and has added me to the friends and supporters of the camp. I want to say to you as an individual I will support this camp.

“For those of you with voters card if as an individual I am ready to support you, you can imagine when Labour Party is in power. For those of you who vote, let us vote to change the situation in Edo State and Nigeria.

“We will find a way to support the camp. I must sponsor some children to school  because education is light and freedom. I have been a lawyer since I was twenty one years old and I will give scholarship to this camp.”

He promised that not minding the issue of electoral campaigns he will henceforth make regular visits to the facility to render his support for the upkeep of the inhabitants while also encouraging his high networth friends and associates all over the world to do likewise.

Earlier while welcoming Akpata, the Coordinator of the facility and founder of the Home for the Needy, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, thanked the politician for taking time to visit the camp and have a first hand knowledge of the situation there. He commended him for his kind gesture.

Meanwhile, in a similar scenario a member of Federal House of Representatives and deputy governornorship candidate of the APC, in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Hon. Dennis Idahosa last week also donated 120 classroom desks and chairs, marker boards and notebooks to the camp.
