Supreme Court Ruling: We’re ready to partner with you for accountability, good governance – NUJ tells Okpebholo

Some group of Enigie in Benin Kingdom of Edo State have dissociated themselves from a recent letter forwarded to the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki calling for the constitution of a traditional council in the Southern district of the State, saying that the intention of the writers of the letter was a calculated attempt to balkanise the Benin Kingdom.

Dissociating themselves from the rebellious letter the Enigie alleged that “this action by some disgruntled Enigie was done in total disrespect and disregard to the throne of Oba of Benin.”

Going further, the Enigie said that they were never part of what they tagged as the “evil letter to Edo State Government.”

According to the Enigie, “we would like to use this opportunity to inform the public in general and BTC(Benin Traditional Council) in particular, that we’re fully contended with our current status as Enigie. We’ve cherished and appreciated this exalted position given to us by the great Oba of Benin.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we would like to place on record that we had no issue with the Benin Traditional Council. This evil letter which was masterminded by the dethroned Enogie of Egbaen and Professor Akenzua, the Enogie of Evbuanosa, was a calculated attempt to balkanise the Benin Kingdom, which cannot be denied by Professor Akenzua.

“The Oba of Benin is the paramount traditional ruler, and the BTC is the constituted body authorized to handle traditional affairs.”

The Enigie asked: “By the way, if Professor Akenzua and his cohorts mean well for this great kingdom and sincere about their concerns why didn’t they approach the BTC with their concerns before writing directly to the Edo State Government for intervention?”
