Edo State House of Assembly at the weekend met with the Edo business community and professionals in the health and education sectors, with an assurance that the House will formulate and pursue only laws that would make the state economically viable and drive sustainable development.

Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. The roundtable which had stakeholders from the academia, government and private sector focused on improving the health, education and economy of the state.

According to Onobun, “My take in all the discussions is that we wish for an improved healthcare and education system for the teeming population of Edo State, as well as a thriving economy. We  are all Edo people; we know the efforts the government has been putting in place to see that all Edo people get the best of the dividends of democracy. We have to look at the way forward on how to consolidate on the gains that have been made by the government and how to do things differently going forward.”

The speaker however promised a legislative consideration for the report of the dialogue.

He continued: “Today, we have been able to touch on issues concerning health, education and economy. I can assure you that whatever report that will be turned out by the technical committee, that I and my colleagues will give it a speedy consideration”

On his part, Chairman of the forum and pioneer Vice Chancellor, Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, Prof. Friday Okonofua advocated the strengthening of primary healthcare facilities in the state.

In his view, the head of Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), Mr. Kelvin Uwaibi reassured that the government will continue to pursue policies and programmes to ensure a business friendly and economically viable Edo State.
