Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Bernard Joman Egwuakhide, has appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to do all he can to exit the state workers from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) which was introduced by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki as it has visited pensioners with untold hardship.

He made the appeal on the occasion of the 2026 International Women Day Celebration of the female labour union members held at the Edo State Secretariat of the association in Temboga, Benin.

While describing the Governor Okpebholo led administration as a government with a human face, Comrade Egwuakhide said: “All these things won’t have been possible if we don’t have a governor that have human feeling.

“Today, in Edo State, a government that’s just one year and three months old, if you look at what they’re doing. Some persons have governed this state for eight years and have not achieved what he has achieved for the first one year and three months.

“We want to pray that God will give him good life, good health to continue what he’s doing. I remember when I had a discussion with him and he told me that his performance is going to bring him back (in 2027).”

In the area of employment, he disclosed that Governor Okpebholo has employed more than 8000 workers in the state civil service since his assumption of office on November 12th, 2024 a testimony to his human compassion and workers friendly disposition.

According to him no worker in the state gets less than ₦75,000 per month as salary unlike what was obtainable in the immediate past administration.

Comrade Egwuakhide passed a message to the Governor through the state Head of Service (HOS), Anthony Okungbowa and the Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Hon. Godwin Eshieshi who were guests at the event.

“We don’t need him to talk. We as workers will talk for him. The workers of Edo are 101 percent solidly behind him.”

The Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, disclosed that Governor Okpebholo has been doing much to better the workers lots.
