A renowned Ilorin-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Buhari Musa Ajikobi, has called on Nigerian youths to actively participate in politics and governance, noting that the country’s stability and future development depend on the courage, innovation, and sense of responsibility of younger generations.

The respected cleric, popularly known as Buhari Omo Musa, delivered the 2026 Ramadan Lecture in Ejigbo, organised by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Osun West Senatorial aspirant, Chief Peter Taiwo Ogundeji (APATA), in honour of the APC governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

The gathering brought together party leaders, clerics, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, and residents from across the Osun West Senatorial District for prayers, reflection, and discussions on moral leadership and responsible citizenship.

Speaking on the theme, “Youth as Agents of Positive Change in Politics,” Sheikh Ajikobi highlighted the need for young people to complement the wisdom of elder statesmen with energy, creativity, and commitment.

“Our elders have laid the foundation, but the future belongs to the youth. They must rise to participate in governance and national development,” he said, urging youths to engage in politics with integrity, justice, and compassion.

He also commended Chief Ogundeji for his sustained grassroots empowerment initiatives despite not holding elective office.

Sheikh Ajikobi further praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to reposition Nigeria’s socio-economic and political landscape, noting that the country’s challenges were inherited from decades of both military and civilian administrations.

“The problems confronting Nigeria today did not start overnight. They accumulated over many administrations. What we must do now is support genuine efforts aimed at reform and national rebuilding,” he said.

He also encouraged stakeholders to support the APC governorship candidate, describing him as calm, competent, and capable of advancing Osun State.

Representing the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, former Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Shittu Amitolu, urged youths to focus on education, productivity, and constructive engagement in nation-building rather than activities that could undermine their future.

Similarly, a chieftain of the APC, former Senator Mudashiru Hussein, called on residents to use the Ramadan period to strengthen unity, remain committed to Islamic teachings, and support the APC governorship candidate in the forthcoming election.

In his remarks, Chief Ogundeji (APATA) described the lecture as a spiritual platform to promote faith, unity, and responsible leadership. He stressed that Ramadan teaches humility, sacrifice, discipline, and compassion, which should guide all leaders.

Ogundeji reaffirmed his confidence in Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji as the best-qualified candidate to lead Osun State and pledged that his political movement would intensify grassroots advocacy for both the APC candidate and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately after Ramadan.

Among dignitaries present were Hon. Amitolu Shittu, representing the APC governorship candidate; APC Youth Leader in Osun West Senatorial District, Hon. Imran Adekunle; prominent party leaders, royal fathers, clerics, and other stakeholders.

The event concluded with prayers for the peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria, as well as for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, the APC governorship candidate Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and the Osun West Senatorial aspirant, Chief Ogundeji.
