Information reaching Popular News is that all things being equal the Labour Party (LP) standard bearer in the Edo State Governorship poll in 2024, Olumide Akpata, will this afternoon officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reliable sources hint that this movement by the former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President to the new opposition party is informed by the disappointment he experienced while flying the LP governorship ticket in 2024 whereby he came in a distant third to Senator Monday Okpebholo (winner) and Barrister Asue Ighodalo (runner up) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) respectively.
In anticipation of his arrival accompanied by a retinue of his supporters starting from 12 noon, ADC party officials and faithfuls are said to be putting finishing touches to their arrangement to receive him at the Edo State Secretariat of the party situated on Ogbelaka Street, Off Sapele Road, Benin.
An observer, who preferred anonymity, inferred that the defection of Akpata to the ADC may lead to a continuation of the cold war noticed between him and Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon (aka The Riceman), who earlier defected to the party long ago, in the titanic fight for the LP governorship ticket in 2024.
