The Department Of State Service (DSS) this Thursday brought an ex parte motion before an Edo State High Court requesting for Osaze Adun popularly called “Kapuepue” to be remanded in prison for 14 days pending an advise from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ahead of a proper arraignment for the assault of Dr. Pedro Obaseki in Benin City.
The case came up on 12 February, 2026 in the High Court in Benin City presided over by Hon. Justice R.A. Ogbevoen.
When the case was called, the DSS counsel brought before the court an ex parte motion requesting the court to order that the defendant, Osaze Adun, be remanded in the Correctional Centre as the court awaits DPP advise.
Leading the Defence Counsel, Olayiwola Afolabi (SAN) supported by Collins Ogiegbaen and 5 others, it was argued that the matter before the court is bailable in line with fundamental human rights of every individual. He pleaded with the court as he added that though bail is at the discretion of the court.
The Presiding Judge, Hon Justice R.A. Ogbevoen later admitted the defendant to a bail to the tune of N5m (five million naira) in like sum with a surety who is resident within the court jurisdiction.
The judge further ruled that the surety must be civil servant of Grade Level 12 and above. The judge also ordered the defendant to appear in court every last Friday of the month pending the advise of the DPP on the matter.
It would be recalled that Dr. Perdo Obaseki was in early December, 2025 beaten by some youths in Benin City. A situation which prompted his petition to the Department of State Service(DSS).
