The Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT) Bayelsa State Chapter has advocated the need to harness technology for effective tax reform implementation across the country.
SWIT disclosed this during a one day workshop organized by the body in Yenagoa which drew stakeholders in tax reforms and implementation in the state.
The coordinator of SWIT in the state, Mrs Tebowei Philomena Ifem, noted that technology plays a prominent role in driving effective tax policies of government, emphasizing that the time has come for the digitalization of tax systems in the country.
Philomena stressed that the use of technology in tax collection will go a long way in blocking loopholes, especially at this digital age, adding that it would also lead to transparency and accountability.
The Director of Finance and Administration in the state’s Board of Internal Revenue, Monday Inatimi, who represented the Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Daniel Eniekezimene, at the event also noted that technology would facilitate an end to tax evasion in line with the new tax act of the Federal Government which began on the 1st of January, 2026.
The Dean of Faculty of Clinical Services, Niger Delta University, Prof. Benedicta Kasia, spoke on the benefits of breast and cervical cancer awareness, emphasizing that women should adhere strictly to safe and healthy practices when dealing with the issue of breast and cervical cancer.
