Former national President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, has stated that the systematic killing of Christians which started several years ago in Nigeria, recently assumed an alarming dimension.

Omobude who is the General Superintendent of the Gospel Light International Ministries – New Covenant Gospel Church, revealed this during a media briefing in Benin City, Edo State.

The respected man of God, wondered why some Nigerians are playing to the gallery over the matter, insisting that thousands of innocent Christians in the country have been killed because of their faith in Jesus Christ, even as several Christian worship centres have been wantonly destroyed by the enemies of the church.

According to him, ” one of the problems of this country is that we play the ostrich. We see what is real, we bow, bend our heads in the sand and pretend as if it’s not there.

“This has been a long term issue. Now, when the issue of Boko Haram started, there is no doubt that their main target was the church; the Christian communities.

“When they raided Chibok, they knew the community that they were raiding. So, the persistent attacks in Benue has been purposeful. As I speak to you, many Christians have been in IDP for over 10 years.

“So, now the people have tested how lucrative it is, they have spread their game. Now, everybody is crying. But, I can tell you, a number of churches have been destroyed.

“A number of Christian leaders have been killed since this ugly incident, this systemic event of terrorism escalated. So, at the time it started, we called it all kinds of names, but it is terrorism. It’s terrorism.

“When a young girl who maybe passed her exams and was testifying that Jesus helped her to pass, and the mob came against her and they killed her. Now, what do you call that? In a civilised society, that can’t happen. When a lady was in the street of Abuja, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, she was killed.

“We don’t have evidence of what was done to those who did those things up till now.

“So, this gradual decimation of Christian communities has been on. And, somehow, the government wants to make it feel like, oh, there’s nothing. We should not put the whole blame on this government. It has been a successive government, for whatever reasons, that played the ostrich,” Dr. Omobude stated.
