Okpebholo crashes claims of tribalism, cronyism, nepotism in governance

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has once again demonstrated that cronyism, nepotism, and tribalism have no place in his administration, it was learnt.

Observers say this is coming following the recent removal of Mr. Tony Ikpasaja, former Managing Director of the Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), who hails from the same senatorial district as the governor.

The governor’s decisive action has effectively countered claims by some critics who suggested that only appointees from certain senatorial districts or ethnic groups were being targeted for dismissal.

Investigations, however, show that several officials from the governor’s own senatorial district have also been relieved of their duties in recent months, therefore reinforcing the fact that Okpebholo’s leadership philosophy prioritizes competence, accountability, and integrity above ethnic or political sentiments.

This position was further echoed by APC chieftain, Mr. John Mayaki, during his appearance on Arise TV yesterday.

Mayaki stated that every individual serving in the current administration “must be ready to bear the burden of service or be shown the way out,” adding that Governor Okpebholo has made it clear that loyalty must be to the people of Edo State, not to personal networks or parochial interests.

“Governor Okpebholo is holding all appointees to the same standard, regardless of origin, tribe, or affiliation,” Mayaki said.

He has continued to send a strong message that public office is a responsibility, not an entitlement, and that the ultimate interest guiding his decisions is the welfare of the people.
