Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Council(NLC) has sent its felicitations to the Governor of the state, Monday Okpebholo on the occasion of his first year anniversary in office.
In the message endorsed by its Chairman, Comrade Bernard Joman Egwekhide, the NLC Chairman, stated that “Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration has made significant strides in Edo State, delivering practical and visible results across various sectors within just one year.
“The state has seen over 6,000 teachers employed and equally promised another 3,000 teacher’s employment and more than 60 schools renovated, strengthening the foundation of education in Edo State.
“Usen Polytechnic workers that were on ₦18,000 minimum wage and were owed five years salary areas are now enjoying ₦75,000 minimum wage and the five years salary arrears cleared by Governor Okpebholo’s administration and now get their salary the same time with other Edo State workers, while the College of Education, Ekiadolor workers that were hitherto sent on compulsory retirement without pay are now being paid their retirement benefits by this administration.”
Going further, the NLC said: “The health sector has also witnessed significant improvements, with over 60 primary healthcare centers revamped across all 18 local government areas, backed by the recruitment of over 1,000 healthcare workers.
“This initiative has improved healthcare delivery, making quality medical services more accessible to the people of Edo State.
“Not to mention the approval and payment of ₦75,000 minimum wage; up to date promotion of Edo workers; training and retraining of Edo workers and increament of over head due to Ambrose Alli University(AAU) from ₦41 million to ₦500 million.”
According to the NLC, “the state’s transportation network is getting a major overhaul with the new Edo Line Transport Company reintroduced by this administration and over 100 workers of Edo City Transport Service(ECTS) that were casual workers have been given permanent jobs.
“The 370 casual cleaners that were been paid ₦20,000 – ₦25,000 by the past administration have been given permanent jobs and are all receiving the ₦75,000 minimum wage.”
