A new petition has surfaced online calling for an investigation into what it describes as “a troubling pattern of abuse of power” by Nigerian lawmaker and businessman, Ned Nwoko.
The petition has been signed by 17412 persons as of the time of filing this report.
According to the petition, “Ned Nwoko is a prominent public figure in Nigeria, yet recent actions reveal a troubling pattern of abuse of power, obstructing fundamental human rights, and intimidating Regina Daniels and her family. This petition seeks justice and accountability.”
The document alleged that Senator Nwoko’s conduct goes beyond private matters, posing a broader concern for justice and governance in the country. “Nwoko’s alleged misconduct is not only an affront to Regina Daniels and her family but also a potential threat to all Nigerians who believe in fairness, justice, and the rule of law,” the petition stated.
It further claimed that, “His actions were reportedly more than just personal transgressions; they reflect a misuse of influence that undermines the democratic principles Nigeria relies upon.”
Citing reports circulating in the media, the petition alleged that “Nwoko has leveraged his position and influence to obstruct legal rights and intimidate.”
“Such actions, if left unchecked, could pave the way for an environment where influence overshadows justice. Nigerians in Lagos and beyond should not remain silent onlookers to these grave accusations,” it added.
Emphasising the national implications, the petition declared, “This is not merely a local issue—it challenges the very fabric of Nigerian democracy and integrity. Now more than ever, there must be a firm stand against such abuses.”
It called for government intervention and public accountability, saying, “By demanding a transparent investigation and subsequent legal actions against Nwoko, we can ensure that no public figure, regardless of their wealth or influence, is above the law.”
The petition urged both Nigerian and international authorities to take action.
“We call upon the relevant Nigerian authorities to investigate the claims against Ned Nwoko thoroughly and take necessary legal steps to restore public faith. We also urge international human rights bodies to observe and support this call for justice, ensuring that international laws and human rights are respected.”
In its final appeal, the petition encouraged citizens to participate in the advocacy effort: “Your voice can make a difference. Stand with us in protecting fundamental human rights and preventing the misuse of power. Sign this petition to demand accountability and uphold justice in Nigeria.”
On Monday, SaharaReporters reported that Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, accused her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of masterminding the arrest of her elder brother and sister to coerce her into returning home and submitting to a rehabilitation programme.
“Someone pls help me. I feel like I’m losing my mind,” Regina wrote in a string of emotional Instagram stories that were widely shared online on Monday evening.
She continued: “I never thought I would do this but my big brother and big sister have been arrested, my baby sister might be arrested soon as well until I return and according to him, return to rehab.”
The actress, who has been at the centre of a marriage crisis that has played out publicly over the last week, lashed out at the senator’s insistence that she enter rehab.
“Don’t even get me started on telling the world what you did to me with your stupid rehab talk! You said I’m a drug addict… What other name can you call me? A prostitute? But I will speak on that one day and tell the world of your involvement with everything.”
Regina’s posts painted a picture of personal despair and humiliation.
“I’m trying, I’m really trying to be the bigger person by not saying or doing anything… Leave my family alone Ned! And leave me alone too! It is obvious it’s war! And a big shame that the beautiful but short legacy we built is about to be ridiculed by the whole world.”
The latest allegations come against the backdrop of earlier claims by Senator Ned Nwoko that Regina is battling drug and alcohol addiction, a contention he laid out in a public statement titled, “Regina’s Unprovoked Carnage And Rampage In My House And In My Absence.”
In that statement the Delta North lawmaker described what he called “violent behaviour and erratic conduct” by Regina.”
The lawmaker said she must continue a rehabilitation programme or he fears for her life and safety.
He said he had proposed rehab either in Asokoro, Abuja, or abroad — specifically naming Jordan — where, he alleged, she would not have access to substances.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that a viral video showing Regina in visible distress, surrounded by relatives and aides, at one point fainting and crying that she “can’t stand the violence”, had fuelled public concern. In that footage she was heard saying: “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a Queen. Not again. I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much.”
