The Eagle Wings Top Access Scouting Programme officially commenced yesterday in Benin City, marking another major stride in Edo State’s commitment to grassroots football development.

The event, which is organized in conjunction with the Edo State Football Association (Edo FA), brought together young, talented players from across the state eager to showcase their skills before a team of professional scouts who arrived from Spain earlier this week.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Edo State Football Association(EDFA), Fred Newton Erhunmwusee, warmly welcomed the visiting scouts and participating players.

In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of initiatives like the Eagle Wings Scouting Programme in discovering and nurturing raw football talent at the grassroots level.

“This programme represents a new chapter in our collective effort to strengthen grassroots football in Edo State. It is an opportunity for our young players to demonstrate their abilities and possibly earn a pathway to professional football careers abroad,” the Chairman stated.

He further reiterated Edo FA’s continuous dedication to providing platforms that foster player development, enhance coaching standards, and attract international partnerships that benefit the local football ecosystem.

Also present at the event were the Vice Chairman of the Edo State Football Association, other members of the executive council, and key stakeholders in the state’s football community. Their presence underscored the association’s unified commitment to ensuring the success of the programme and the advancement of football across the state.

The Eagle Wings Top Access Scouting Programme is expected to run for several days, featuring intensive player assessments, training sessions, and talent identification exercises.

The collaboration with the visiting Spanish scouts is anticipated to open doors for outstanding players to further their careers on the international stage.

With initiatives like this, the Edo State Football Association continues to affirm its position as a driving force in youth football development, aligning with the broader vision of promoting excellence and creating global opportunities for Edo’s football talents.
