Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Enabulele, has divulged that the state “is making strategic preparations to win the next edition of the National Sports Festival in Enugu in 2026.”

He was speaking on Wednesday while receiving Alhaji Danjuma Abdul Masu, Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission, who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Benin City.

Enabulele reaffirmed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s unwavering commitment to sports development across Edo State. He highlighted the achievements recorded so far by the Commission and outlined plans to position Edo as a powerhouse in sports at both the national and international levels.

“We remain committed to discovering, nurturing, and supporting our young athletes and coaches — this is a top priority for His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo,” Enabulele stated.

He also conveyed Governor Okpebholo’s warm regards to his Niger State counterpart, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, and the people of Niger State.

Alhaji Danjuma Abdul Masu, the pioneer Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission, was in Edo to witness the first phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League. He praised Edo’s rapid strides in sports under Governor Okpebholo’s administration, noting that “sports development fosters unity, empowers youth, and helps to curb social vices.”

The two Sports Commission Chairmen later visited the ongoing Ardova Handball Premier League matches at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where they explored avenues for greater collaboration and shared commitment to harnessing the immense sports potential of both states.
