The Director General(DG) of the National Institute of Sports(NIS) and immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, have disclosed that the Institute is ready to partner with all state governors and the FCT.

Shaibu watched the exciting final match in company of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau.

The match was between Eternal Grace Ministry FC (EGM FC) and Advance Dreams FA at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

The Governor’s Cup Tournament, which commenced earlier in 2025, has been a thrilling competition, featuring top teams from across the state.

Both teams gave their all as Comrade Shaibu watched the game attentively and his experience as a sports administrator informed his analysis of the game.

The crowd was fully engaged, cheering on their favorite team with enthusiasm. Shaibu’s presence added to the excitement, and he was warmly received by the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri and other sports enthusiasts, including Mallam Gusau, former Super Eagles Coach and Technical Director, Samson Siasia and Austin Eguavoen.

Speaking shortly at the end of the tournament, Shaibu said he looks forward into having a partnership with state governments in producing experienced and qualified coaches in different sports field.

“Yes, I am happy that I am here to witness this final game. We are ready to partner with all state governors and the FCT in our task ahead. We need to measure up globally in terms of our coaches.”
