Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his “bold, strategic, and visionary appointment” of former Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu as the new Director-General(DG) of the National Institute for Sports (NIS).
Speaking while receiving the new appointee at the NSC Headquarters in Abuja Dikko described Shaibu’s appointment as “a turning point in the journey to reset, reform, and relaunch Nigerian sports.”
He emphasized the crucial role the NIS will play in providing technical depth, research capabilities, and manpower to drive the Commission’s ambitious sporting agenda.
Dikko described Comrade Shaibu as a “trusted hand” who has proven himself across various national assignments, now being strategically positioned to overhaul and reposition the NIS in line with 21st-century sporting standards.
According to him, “Comrade Shaibu’s pedigree speaks for itself, and I am confident he will deliver beyond expectations.”
Going further, he stressed: “You have always delivered. Now, you’re not just a member of the sports family—you’re a cornerstone. We’ll work together to bring the President’s vision to life.”
Responding, Comrade Shaibu stated: “I came to inform the Chairman of my resumption, and our discussions have made it crystal clear—sports in Nigeria is headed in the right direction. We will ensure that the Renewed Hope vision of the President becomes a visible reality in the sports sector.”
