The Benin – Lagos Road was thrown into chaos early this morning as protesting residents of the Evidence Church and adjoining lane axis embarked on a protest march disrupting easy flow of vehicles on the ever busy road.
The embittered protesters are said to be on war path as a result of the midnight raid of the lane directly opposite the Evidence Church by security operatives made up majorly of policemen and operatives of the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Eyewitness account divulged that the security men stormed the lane in the dead of the night on Monday, broke down doors, burglary proofs and the likes as they shot sporadically into the air to forcefully arrest residents on suspicion of been fraudsters(known in local parlance as yahoo yahoo boys).
“The raid was a huge harvest to the EFCC and police team as over 100 suspected fraudsters were held by them with about three dozen exotic cars and other gadgets seized,” Popular News was told.
Thus embittered residents of the area and sympathisers were said to have flooded the axis of the Benin – Lagos Road barricading the road and disrupting movement which resulted in a monstrous traffic jam.
A call put to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Edo State Police Command, Joel Yamu, to get the Command’s response to the report was not answered. Also a call put across to the PRO of the Benin Zonal Command of the EFCC, Mr. Williams, for the same reason didn’t go through as his phone was switched off.
