Non-Partisan Progressives Movement of Nigeria (NPPMN) has saluted the strength, resilience, and unshakable spirit of the Nigerian worker.

The salutation was made by Chief Chamberlain Owen Obaseki, Chairman and National Coordinator of the group in an International Labour Day 2025 message on Thursday.

According to Chief Obaseki, “today, we do not just mark another day on the calendar—we honour the sweat, sacrifice, and silent struggles of millions who wake up each morning determined to build a life of dignity and purpose, despite the odds.

“In our farms, factories, classrooms, hospitals, marketplaces, and ministries, the Nigerian worker remains the lifeblood of our nation’s survival. You carry burdens that leadership has often failed to lighten. Yet you press on. You persevere. You endure. And for this, you deserve more than praise—you deserve justice.

“We in the Non-Partisan Progressives Movement of Nigeria (NPPMN) raise our voices today not in complaint, but in constructive conviction. We believe that labour is not just a means of survival—it is a sacred contribution to nation-building. And until Nigeria learns to treat its workers not as expendable tools, but as valuable partners in progress, we will continue to shortchange our future.”

Chief Obaseki affirmed that the NPPMN “was born out of the need to rise above the noise of politics and the paralysis of partisanship. We are committed to real change—not cosmetic reforms or rehearsed rhetoric. We believe in a new kind of Nigeria, where hard work is rewarded, dignity is restored, and leadership is driven by service, not self-interest.”

Going further, he stated: “To the teachers moulding minds in dilapidated classrooms; to the doctors and nurses battling disease in under-resourced hospitals; to the farmers who feed us without reaping the benefits; “to the civil servants, artisans, drivers, and security personnel—we see you. We honour you. We stand with you.”

He challenged every Nigerian, every leader, every employer, and every policymaker: “Let us reimagine labour not as a cost to be minimized, but as a treasure to be maximized. Let us raise policies, not promises. Let us lift standards, not slogans. Let us become a country that respects effort, rewards merit, and prioritizes people over politics.

“The NPPMN will continue to advocate, mobilize, and act for a better Nigeria where the true wealth of our nation—the people—is given the central place in national planning and leadership. Today, we raise our voices for fair wages, safe workplaces, equitable opportunities, and leadership accountability.

“Let history remember that we were not silent. Let our children inherit a Nigeria where labour is no longer exploited but celebrated.”
