The 2025 May Day commemoration will take place on Thursday, May 1st, 2025 nationwide, under the theme: “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship”.
In the light of this, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has requested that the state councils collaborate with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in organizing the 2025 May Day commemoration.
The NLC also encouraged the state councils to invite its allies in civil society organizations and the informal sector to participate in the event.
“To visually highlight the issues facing workers in various sectors of the economy, State Councils are encouraged to create placards and banners that reflect the challenges encountered by workers in their respective states,” the NLC statement signed by its General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja affirmed.
Consequently, all affiliates of the NLC Edo State Council under the leadership of its acting Chairman, Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide, are expected to converged at the Stadium on the D-Day for celebration and match past with Governor Monday Okpebholo taking the salute of workers.
In a notification signed by Comrade Kingsley Ireotoi, the acting Secretary of the Edo NLC, the Congress stressed “affiliates that fail to turn up at the Stadium sets up themselves against the Governor of Edo State.
“Let it be noted that appropriate sanction from Congress under the leadership of Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide will swiftly respond to that affiliate union after the May 1st ceremony.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, Mr Governor has fully mobilize Labour for the hosting of a successful celebration at the Stadium. Time: 8.00am.”
