The Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Barrister Neda Imasuen, has stated that in 2027 an attempt by politicians to field any presidential candidate from the north, will be an exercise in futility.

The Senator disclosed this when he was fielding questions from reporters in Benin City on Friday.

This is so because “the arrangement whether written or unwritten is that the North will do eight years and the South will do eight years. And so that’s the battle, that is where they will be faced with the roadblock.

“At some points, they will agree with themselves and say ‘let the South just finish its eight years.’ So that’s my take on it. I don’t worry about it because it’s an arrangement that is spoken or unspoken.

“There’s an understanding between the North and the South. Buhari was not someone whose policies I admired as far as I’m concerned. He did little or nothing at all. But as bad as that was, everybody closed their eyes and allowed him do his eight years.

“If Buhari was allowed to complete his two terms tenure, while should some people from the northern part of the country be clamouring for the next president to come from the north when the present president from the South is doing very well.

“And why did I say he’s doing well? He’s a man with courage. He has such a strong courage that is unbelievable. I’ll give you an example, when we were faced with the tax bill, it was a whole lot of things that happened within the Senate floor, that nobody sees it especially when we are having a closed door, without camera and people thought we were sharing money. But sometimes we use unwanted languages and throw tantrums at one another for holding strongly to your views.

“For holding strongly to our views and because northern politicians said they will never support him (President Tinubu) to secure a second term, if it was some presidents they would capitulate and say let me soft pedal on this so that I can come back for second term, but President Tinubu said no, I will do the right thing.

“So for me, he is a man of courage who didn’t say because of the second tenure thing, he will not do the right thing.”
