A group, the Esan Descendants Assembly(EDA), which prides itself as the umbrella body of all Esan sons and daughters worldwide, has stated that “Esanland has suffered prolonged neglect for over two decades. Now is the time to reverse that history and usher in an era of prosperity, inclusion, and transformation.”
The group made the affirmation in its reaction to the victory of the Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo at the state Governorship Election Tribunal adding, “this moment is not only a personal or party victory—it is a historic milestone for the Esan Agenda and a collective triumph for the Esan Nation.”
According to Prof. G.R.A. Okogun, Chairman and Saintmoses Eromosele (Secretary) of the group, in a statement they jointly signed they equally commended the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo “for his courage, resilience, and dignified approach throughout the process.
“His mature response to the ruling has elevated the standards of political engagement in Edo State. While calling for closer ties and unity of purpose, we wish him well in his decision—whether to appeal the judgment or embrace the call by his brother, Governor Okpebholo, to unite with him in the onerous task of building Edo State and emancipating Esanland. We remain proud of the values he embodies.”
EDA averred that “as both contenders are proud sons of Esanland, this moment must be seen as an Esan victory—a validation of our push for political equity and fair play. However, beyond politics lies the greater task: giving true meaning to the Esan Agenda, delivering good governance to our state, and ensuring sustainable development and the dividends of democracy to the people.”
The group charged Governor Okpebholo to seize this opportunity to “connect Esanland with quality new roads and rehabilitate existing ones; establish industrial layouts across Esan communities; site strategic government institutions and facilities in Esanland and make Esanland the agricultural and economic nerve centre of Edo State, as the transformation of Esanland is now most strategic to the overall transformation of the state.”
In conclusion, EDA urged Governor Okpebholo “to be magnanimous in victory, unite the people, and govern with fairness to all. Let this moment mark the beginning of genuine development and prosperity—not just for Esanland, but for all Edo people.
“The fight for equity has been won. Now is the time to deliver results. May God bless, uphold, and guide you as you serve the state and its people in love, truth, and faith.”
