The Edo State Sports Commission under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Amadin Enabulele, is on a mission with a clear vision to identify and nurture young talents in Edo State.

The Executive Director, Baldwin Bazuaye, representing Edo South Senatorial District, stated this when he met with 10 selected sports association coaches as part of efforts to promote grassroots sports development in the State. He emphasized the importance of grassroots sports in every sports development project as a way to setting career paths for budding talents.

Enabulele, who later joined the meeting, highlighted the governor’s interest in school sports which he recognizes as the springboard to launching the state into a generation of talented sports men and women whose career paths in sports would ultimately be beneficial to the state.

He commended Bazuaye for kicking off a tour across the seven local government areas in Edo South Senatorial District on a sports development campaign to promote  community participation  and enthusiasm.

The Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Doris Omoragbon, explained that scouting young talents and follow-up programs are crucial for sustaining grassroots sports development. She noted that local government councils across the state have shown appreciable interest in grassroots sports promotion and are ready to collaborate with the Sports Commission to harness available talents at that level.

To achieve this, the commission has concluded plans to host the first Edo South “Train the Trainers” programme, involving 10 sports associations, including: Athletics, Ayo, Chess, Cricket and Dart. Others are Football, Karate, Kung Fu, Rugby and Scrabble.

The programme aims to scout raw talents in the course of representing their various local governments. By empowering  coaches and athletes, the Sports Commission hopes to unlock the full potential of young talents in the region.
