Edo State Government has put its right foot forward in readiness for the forthcoming National Sports Festival taking place in Ogun State in May.

On Friday, the deputy governor of the state, Dennis Idahosa, inaugurated a 12 man planning committee of the Edo State Sports Festival in preparation for the National Sports Festival.

Edo State Sports Commission boss, Desmond Enabulele, is the Chairman of the 12 man committee while Sabina Chikere, Executive Director of the Edo State Sports Commission, is the Secretary.

“Research has shown that sports competition is a veritable platform to groom sports men and women in talents identification and physical well being of the people,” Idahosa submitted in his address on the occasion.

He averred that the Edo State Government “places premium on grassroots sports, hence the state is participating in the National Sports Festival which will no doubt boost socio-economic development of communities of the state and enhance the physical and mental well being of athletes during the festival.”

He charged the Committee members to work assiduously as a team, to ensure Edo State produce capable representatives who will make the state proud during the National Sports Festival.

In his response on behalf of the Committee members, Desmond Enabulele assured that the best representatives would be chosen through synergy with donor agencies and the various sports associations to make up the state contingent at the national sporting fiesta.
