A socio-political group, Edo Volunteer Movement, has stated that the N75,000 minimum wage that the immediate past administration in Edo State under the leadership of then Governor Godwin Obaseki promised civil servants in the state was a ruse.

The group in its statement signed by its President, Iyamu Osaro Culture and Secretary General, Ernest Asibor, said: “We have discovered that Obaseki connived with some Permanent Secretaries who received over N900,000 as monthly salary to ruin civil servants who are below level 12.

Key into Shine Agenda CPS to Okpebholo pleads with reporters

“Shockingly, our discreet investigations, showed that the N75,000 minimum wage is not basic salary rather it encompasses all the components of salary structure as against what is obtainable in other states where level1 Civil Servants receive the exact N75,000 minimum wage as basic salary excluding other components of the salary structure.

“Whereas in Edo State, according with the way Obaseki dubiously crafted the minimum wage, the basic salary is around N35,000-N40,000 while other components(allowances) of their salary is around N35,000 which amount to N75,000 minimum wage that Obaseki dubiously initiated in order to score cheap political points during the just concluded governorship election which is detrimental to Civil Servants and Edo people whereas in other states, basic salary is N75,000 while other components of their salary(allowances) is between N45,000-N55,000 which amount to N120,000-N130,000 as minimum wage.”

The group called on “Edo State Government to immediately launch probe into our findings in view to reversing the dubious and staggered minimum wage that Obaseki fabricated against the lower class of Edo Civil Servants.”
