The National Executives of the Niger Delta Student Union Government (NIDSUG) led by Comrade Scott Ogunseri has disassociated itself from the planned protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) which it alleged is orchestrated by impostors.
According to a statement endorsed by Comrade Ogunseri “the proposed protest, initiated by the duo of Romeo Emieye Kemepade and Idowu Ayemobuwa (Hero), is unauthorized and illegitimate.”
The NIDSUG Executives condemned the protest notice “and advise our members, IOCs, Parastatals, and Ministries to disregard any information from these impostors.”
Comrade Ogunseri said the NIDSUG Executives “acknowledge the NDDC management’s laudable projects and programs, which have benefited our students. Our intention is to foster peace, unity, and growth in our region, not promote crisis.”
Going further, he averred: “We urge the security agencies to arrest anyone participating in unauthorized protests. We request the arrest of impostors claiming to represent NIDSUG.
“We seek continued dialogue with the NDDC for regional development. We propose the approval of the NIDSUG-proposed Niger Delta Bursary. We request internship opportunities for students. We appeal for the expansion of the Overseas Scholarship to accommodate more beneficiaries.
“We request consideration for local scholarships to complement the students’ loan by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
On the Managing Director (MD) of the NDDC, NIDSUG expressed appreciation to “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, a one-time student leader and Senior Comrade, as the MD of NDDC,” adding “this appointment is a testament to renewed hope, as Dr. Ogbuku understands the challenges faced by youth and students.
“We reassure the NDDC of our unwavering support in ensuring peace and development in the student community.”
