Mind what you eat foundation charge Nigerians

The Director, Health of Mother Earth Foundation(HOMEF), Dr. Nnimmo Bassey, has said food is extremely important in every culture, noting that without food there is no culture and that people should be mindful of what they eat.

Dr. Bassey, who said this on Tuesday at a food festival tagged, celebrating Nigeria foods and culture, organized by the foundation, enjoined Nigerians to imbibe the habit of eating locally prepared foods.

According to him, the festival is very important as it is a way to display culture through the  foods that comes from each region.

While stressing his concerns about the importation of genetically modified foods (GMO) into the country, he posited that the foundation is completely against it as it is  harmful to the human body, and maintained that it is very important to maintain food variety.

Some of the farmers who spoke on the sidelines of the event commended the brains behind the food festival and stressed that GMO foods should be discouraged, adding that people should be mindful of what they eat or take into their body. According to them, culture is tied to food, noting that food is medicine and it is also identity.

Side attraction of the programme was cultural dance by the Binis, Igbo, Yoruba and stage drama, while the highpoint of the day was the presentation of award to all the chefs who prepared the local dishes ranging from Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Bini, Efik and others.
