The Assistant Inspector-General of Police(AIG), Zone 5 Command Headquarters, Benin City, comprising Delta and Edo State Police Commands, Arungwa Nwazue, has constituted a fresh Vigilante Group in Edo State (Edo State Police Vigilante Group) for the purpose of gathering information for the Police.
According to a Press Release by SP Tijani Momoh, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Zone, the Police Vigilante “are also to collaborate with the Police to ensure a watertight security,” adding that “their operational modalities will be released in due course.”
Momoh stressed that “the AIG further advised the good people of Edo State to cooperate with the Police, and the new vigilante group for utmost policing.”
It will be recalled that on the heel of the September 21 guber poll in Edo State the IGP Olukayode Egbetokun banned the activities of the state owned Security Network over fear of their resort to illegalities.
