Barrister Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion, the former member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ovia Federal Constituency, has expressed her displeasure with the state of affairs in her party, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Edo State.
Omosede, who stepped down from her 2024 governorship aspirations on the day of the PDP governorship primaries held inside the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, was reacting to raised eyebrows that greeted the reception she accorded the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial fagbearer, Senator Monday Okpebholo and his team in her home in Abuja.
She said: “I have been inundated with an influx of calls and messages since yesterday, regarding a picture in circulation.
“For the records, let me set things straight. The picture includes Senator Monday Okpebholo and others. Senator Monday Okpebholo, is the Senator representing Edo Central, as well as the All Progressives Congress(APC) gubernatorial flagbearer.
“He came to my home in Abuja to visit for the first time, alongside other gentlemen, where a picture was taken.
“How this now transcends to joining APC, I really do not understand. Am I happy with the current state of my party, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Edo State? The answer is NO and alot of people share the same sentiment.
“The unity of PDP should be paramount and trying to appease members that feel aggrieved for very cogent reasons.
“None of the people that the APC members that joined our party in 2020 came to meet, emerged as governorship candidate or running mate. How does that encourage the old PDP to work for this ticket?
“I am not talking about myself. The cracks in PDP are obvious to the blind. You could see how rather reluctantly the APC candidate was made to mend fences and accommodate his opponent, by making him a running mate. In the case of PDP this is far from the case.
“The flagrant disregard for the old PDP members is bizarre. This seems like a case of ‘mutiny’ and does not sit well. They did it before; Governor, Deputy Governor, SSG and Chief of Staff all APC turned PDP overnight. Now they want to do it again. They need to fix the House and show regard to the Landlords.
“As of today, I am a member of PDP and support Dr. Asue Ighodalo.”
