Hon. Ethan Uzamere, the Edo State Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, has allayed fears of road users that the deplorable conditions of some of the roads transversing the state may linger.
In an interactive session with media executives in his office in Benin City, the state capital, Uzamere stated that the state government is working round the clock to address the situation and thus bring relief to road users.
He adviced motorists to consider the huge sums of money, occasioned by rising cost of materials that the state government is investing on the chains of roads, by keeping them in good stead.
Uzamere said that the Edo State Government desirous of providing quality, durable facilities around the state has earmarked all the roads that are in a deplorable state for repairs/reconstruction.
According to him, the government will leave no stone untouched in ensuring that the projects, which are going on simultaneously across the length and breadth of the state are well handled to specification and are thus durable.
Going further, he appealed to the federal government to give Edo State priority consideration when issues of road construction and maintenance is under review as the state witness a high flow of traffic on a daily basis due to its strategic location.
The Commissioner asserted that the work on the Benin – Asaba Road corridor which connects Edo and Delta States is being jointly handled by the two states governments.
“There is a misconception that the state government does not work on roads that belong to the federal government and also when it comes to road construction to me in terms of administration we should look at systems. How to solve a system.”
